Welcome to The Reivers’ website. Alas, if you are looking for a gang of robbers and bandits, you are in the wrong place. We are a quartet of musicians offering an unusual mix of instrumentation and style, based in Krakow, Poland. For those puzzled by the introduction, a Reiver was a kind of bandit traditionally occupying the border lands between Scotland and England, raiding where and what was convenient at the time. Our group, which has been functioning since 1999 is called ‘The Reivers’ because we raid several musical traditions, taking that which we want and leaving the rest. Although largely grounded on Scottish traditional music, many of our arrangements belong to the classical tradition and our repertoire includes such a wide mix as excerpts from the opera 'Tulsa', to Irish dances to Scottish lamentations and original compositions. |

We are: On Bagpipes - Lindsay Davidson – piper and composer with a long list of commissions already achieved including a symphony, two full length operas and a lot of pipe music. Lindsay arranges most of the music for the group and uses smallpipes, borderpipes and highland pipes during our performances. On violin - Pawel Wojtowicz – depute leader of the Krakow Opera Orchestra and their principle violin soloist, Pawel has an immense reputation not only as a musical interpreter, but also as a teacher. His musical interest extends beyond performing and includes writing educational music, and articles about music. On harp - Irena Czubek Davidson – principal harpist with the Cracow Philharmonic and teacher in the local conservatoire, Irena specializes in romantic harp music and vocal accompaniments. On ‘drums’ - Ryszard Haba – an extraordinary percussionist with a wide and interesting collection of instruments from all over the globe. Ryszard is principal timpanist with the Cracow Philharmonic and a renowned soloist, with regular concerto performances on timpani, marimba and other percussion instruments. |
